Technical Features:

  1. Medium to low durability, and rot progresses once fungi develops.
  2. Resistance to termite attacks, but still susceptible to insect attacks.
  3. High strength, very hard and very heavy.
  4. Glues, stains and finishes well.

Visual Features:

  1. Pale straw colour when freshly cut, and becomes reddish brown.
  2. Surface easily cracks when exposed to high outdoor temperature, but the cracks may recover in lower temperature.

Usage – Indoor Use:

Not recommended for indoor use because of its instability of shrinkage and expansion.

Technical Features:

  1. Medium durability and have resistance to insect but not termite attacks.
  2. Medium strength, hardness and weight.
  3. Kamper has a low stability and has high shrinkage and expansion.
  4. Easy to shape, glues and finishes well, holds nails and screws well.

  1. Light brown colour and sometimes have shades of grey and red

Technical Features:

  1. Very Durable and have an excellent insect and rot resistance.
  2. Excellent strength and durability.
  3. Have a high density and hardness.
  4. Glues and finishes well. Holds nail and screws firmly.
  5. Contains gum that bleeds when exposed to water.

Visual Features:

  1. Orange-brown colour when freshly cut
  2. Colour becomes reddish-brown after drying both naturally or mechanically, and the colour between boards can be highly variable.
  3. Small yellow mineral deposits throughout the wood which gives Merbau its natural streaks.
